PRESS RELEASE

MUSIC INDUSTRY ONLINE REVIEW - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 02, 2006

Revolution is a recently released album by Garth Taylor, who has already received extensive airplay on national radio and performed with industry greats, both local and international, such as Simply Red, Shaggy, Jonathan Butler, Jimmy Dludlu and the late Brenda Fassie.

This brother has got it going on, what with several hits like Why', Tonite', only with you' and Islands in the stream' to his credit.  It would be an understatement to call Taylor multi-talented; in addition to writing his own lyrics, he is responsible for the entire programming and engineering processes involved in recording his work. Add to that the fact that he plays all of the accompanying instruments on his music, including the keyboards, drums, guitar, bass - all self taught and you've got yourself an artist worth idolising.

A majority of the tracks are heavily influenced by R n B, with pop, jazz and Kwaito undertones, engaging R n B lovers across racial borders.

Taylor does justice to track 7. When it comes to the more down-tempo, ballad material, however, this Durban boy knows exactly what he's doing - delivering some seriously sublime stuff - and it works.

Like the lyrics to Until I saw you', Garth caught me unawares with his rich tonal texture on two tracks in particular.  A beautifully delivered performance on Tracks 4 and 8 are the perfect illustration of this artist's vocal range and the words sound like they're coming straight from his heart. Clearly, Taylor comes into his own when performing slower, more romantic material that makes the most of his vocal talent.

The artist appears to have successfully broken racial boundaries with his mass appeal, so he should have little difficulty breaking into the South African music market. With the right marketing and sufficient amount of airplay, Revolution is bound to appeal to the romantic, the pop star or the Durbanite in you.
